BRC’s Ian Thomas and Sam Cooper-Woolley have signed up to run this year’s Cardiff Half Marathon to raise vital funds for Welsh based homelessness charity The Wallich.
The Cardiff Half Marathon is now one of the largest road races in the UK and attracted over 22,000 runners in 2016. The first event took place back in 2003 and the event has grown year on year.
The race is sponsored by Cardiff University and supported by strategic partners Cardiff Council, Vale of Glamorgan Council, and Welsh Athletics.
The run is not only the UK’s second largest half marathon, it is Wales’ largest road race and largest multi-charity fundraising event. Thousands of runners raise money for charity by getting sponsored, with more than £2.4 million raised for 800 charities and good causes each year.
Ian and Sam are very proud to be supporting The Wallich, a fantastic charity who have been providing accommodation and support services for homeless people since 1978. Starting with a 20 bed hostel in Cardiff they have now expanded to being a multi-project agency working with Local Authorities across Wales. The Wallich specialise in providing services for people with multiple, complex needs; people who, because of their high support needs, are often excluded from other services and have difficulty in accessing accommodation. The range of services The Wallich offers is diverse as their aim is to ensure that they can offer people access to support appropriate to their needs.
