A team of 5 from BRC completed the Cancer Research UK 10,000 steps a day challenge in June. Sarah, Megan, Josie, Amy and Ellie walked or ran a minimum of 10,000 step each day during the month. 10,000 steps is equivalent to about 8 KM, so by the end of June they had each walked around 150 miles – the distance from Cardiff to London!
Sarah said: “It was an opportunity to get fit and feel amazing in the knowledge that we were raising vital funds to help beat cancer, a cause very close to my heart. We used a mixture of strategies to hit our daily steps targets including: Walking to work, lunch times strolls, taking the stairs, and having ‘walking meetings’. We enjoyed being out in the sunshine, but during one of the weeks there was a lot of rain and that was tough! We are very proud to have raised over £700 in sponsorship for this fantastic charity.”
Cancer Research UK have an ambition to see 75% of people surviving cancer within the next 20 years, In the 1970’s less than a quarter of people with cancer survived but over the last 40 years that number has doubled.
The charity supports research into all types of cancer and across all age groups. They focus their efforts in four key areas: preventing cancer, early diagnosis, developing new drugs, and optimizing current treatments to make them more effective.
